Portageville Schools Lockdown After Suspect Flees Police

 

A fleeing suspect led to an arrest and a brief lockdown at Portageville Schools on Monday. Deputies, at approximately 12:53 p.m. Monday, the Portageville Police Department attempted to make contact with a black male on East 12th Street near King Avenue. The suspect fled south on foot across the student parking at the Portageville High School. After a short pursuit, officers arrested 24-year-old Malik Jones of Portageville on two outstanding warrants for felony possession of a controlled substance, $5,000 bond, through New Madrid County and trespassing and disorderly conduct, $250 cash only bond, through the City of Portageville. Jones was transported by the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office and is being held in the Mississippi County Jail on $5,250 total bond. The Portageville School District was placed on lock down for a short time until the suspect was taken in to custody.
