Two Armed Robberies Under Investigation in Carbondale


.The first incident happened on Thursday, Sept. 23. Police say around 11:45 p.m. a person was robbed by two black men, wearing black clothing and armed with handguns, near the intersection of West Main and South Poplar streets. The suspects took property belonging to the victim then ran away, with one running south on South Poplar and the other east on West Main.No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.  The second incident happened at approximately 11:47 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24. Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 700 block of South Dixon. The victim told offiers they were approached by two suspects, one who displayed a handgun and demanded property.A struggle began and the suspects eventually took the victim’s property, before fleeing south on foot on S. Dixon. While running away, the suspect who displayed the handgun fired a shot into the air.The suspect armed with the firearm was described as a tall, thin white male wearing all black clothing including a black face mask. The second suspect was described as a tall, thin, black male wearing all black including a black face mask. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the struggle.Anyone with information about these incidents is encouraged to contact the Police Department at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS.
