A search is underway in Pemiscot County for a man that escaped from the county courthouse Monday, September 20 at approximately 4 p.m.The Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jonathan Stewart, 23 of Hayti, was being escorted to the county jail from the courthouse when he broke away and ran from a deputy. The sheriff’s office said Stewart was not an inmate, but he had just been sentenced to 120 days in Missouri Department of Corrections for a probation violation on original charges of burglary. Stewart was last seen running west of the courthouse in Caruthersville. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and faded blue jeans. The sheriff’s office said several agencies have been searching for Stewart, but so far they have been unable to locate him.
