Southern Illinois Student Dies at Party in Carbondale

 

A Southern Illinois University student was shot and killed while attending a party in Carbondale. Carbondale Police were called to a home on the 500 block of West Cherry Street at 3:12 a.m. on Sunday, August 22 in reference to shots fired. When officers arrived they found one gunshot victim and attempted to resuscitate the individual. The victim, identified by family and friends as KeeShanna Jackson, was taken to a Carbondale hospital where she was pronounced dead. Three other victims came to the emergency department from the same location with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police said those victims were not associated with SIU.

Family and friends held a vigil and balloon release for Jackson at SIU on Sunday night. Police said they do not have a suspect at this time.
