Governor JB Pritzker announced a statewide mask mandate in schools, effective immediately. It includes Pre-K through 12th grades.He also announced Illinois will require vaccinations for all state employees in state-run facilities. It takes effect on October 4.The governor held the briefing in Chicago on Wednesday afternoon, August 4. Earlier on Wednesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced it would expand access to free COVID-19 testing to all K-12 public schools in the state.IDPH also announced a new website that includes COVID-19 vaccination data for residents and staff in long-term care facilities. Currently, the test positivity rate in Illinois is at 5 percent. Every county in southern Illinois is considered a high transmission area.
