Multiple crews were called to battle a fire at the Chaumette Vineyard and Winery, in Ste. Genevieve on Thursday night, July 8. Officials say an office building somehow caught fire at approximately 7 p.m. and was destroyed and last year’s wine production was wiped out. What caused the fire is unknown at this time. There were no injuries and all animals and people have been accounted for. Officials say at least six fire trucks from Ste. Genevieve and Farmington responded to the fire. Despite the fire, the winery will be open for business as usual. The Grapevine Grill, private villas, and wedding venues are not affected by the fire.
