Crews Progressing on the New Cairo Bridge Project

Progress is being made on the new Cairo Bridge project. The new bridge is set to be located 900-feet upstream from the current bridge. The new bridge will be 1.94 miles long and have two 12-foott lanes, as well as two 8-foot shoulders. The bridge project is currently awaiting environmental paperwork to be approved, which should take place before the end of the year. In addition, engineers are also currently developing the “roundabout” alignments on the Cairo side. The roundabout should allow for efficient handling of traffic as vehicles enter the bridge. During the next fourteen months s, engineers will be developing and evaluating the best type of bridge for the project.
