Southern Illinois University Carbondale Students Must Wear Masks if They Don’t Get Vaccinated

Southern Illinois University Carbondale won’t require vaccines for most students this fall. University officials sent out an email requiring on-campus students, students who are participating in on-campus classes or activities) will need to either obtain a vaccine prior to arriving on campus or plan to wear a mask and participate in periodic testing until it is determined by health officials that this asymptomatic testing is no longer needed. In some circumstances, such as student athletes and students in health career fields of study, vaccinations may be required. All students in these areas will be notified of such requirements by officials in their area. University officials are strongly encouraging as many students, and SIU faculty and staff to be vaccinated before classes start.
