Dansler Field will be getting a facelift as part of the Fiscal Year 2022 budget that was approved by the Sikeston City Council during Monday’s meeting. During a study session last week, The Sikeston City Council expressed their desire to add improvements to Dansler Field. The new budget reflects a maximum o $305,700 to replace the fencing, backstop and lights and to make other miscellaneous improvements and broaden the parking lot across to the street. The Sikeston City Council also added the addition of a fountain/splash pad to Lincoln Park. This idea was brought up back on May 24, 2021 at a meeting the council thought this would be well-used addition to the park after seeing the usage at the fountain in Legion Park. Because of conservative budgeting and unexpectedly robust sales and use tax revenues during the COVID-19 pandemic, the city’s general fund balance grew considerably in 2021. Even after spending it down for these two projects, the general fund balance will be at 53 percent of revenues, significantly higher than the 25 percent required by city policy.
