A recent report has found that companies throughout Missouri have received over $14 billion in military defense contracts during fiscal year 2019, the most recent year for which data is available. This report was revealed in late May by Governor who said military investment in Missouri makes the state’s economy stronger as well as the nation’s security. This report focuses on the value of contracts awarded by the U.S. Department of Defense and a related agency to companies across the state and further analyzes a previous statewide impact report released in August. In addition, the report included the military bases and defense agencies, and showed defense spending in the state currently supports 180,000 direct and indirect jobs with a total impact of $29 billion. The Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission (MMPEC) and their military advocate office commissioned the study to have a better understanding of the local impacts of defense contract spending.
