Sikeston, along with other cities and counties in the area, will soon be receiving their first payment from the American Rescue Plan and some residents are interested in how the City of Sikeston plans to utilize the money. Officials say the city is set to receive about $2.9 million in fiscal aid with the first half coming sometime within the next month and the state will be given the funds about May 10 and then have a month to parcel the money out to all the cities. Officials say they are still unsure as to how they are going to spend the money. They say that when the rules on how to spend the funds are revealed, they will bring it to council to see how they choose to spend the funds. The deadline to spend the money from the American Rescue Plan is 2024.
