Sikeston City Council Approves Bids to Improve Streets

Work will start soon to improve some streets in Sikeston. The Sikeston City Council awarded some street improvement bids during Monday’s meeting, as part of the 2021 Street Improvement Program. They awarded the bid for the cold milling, pavement replacement and bituminous overlay on Adams, Jefferson and Osage to Apex Paving of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for $160,210.12. They also awarded the bid for the cold milling, pavement replacement and bituminous overlay for Greer and Ranney and the Greer and Warner intersection replacement with associated drainage work to Kluesner Construction of Kelso, Missouri, for $212,135.60. In addition, the city council awarded he bid for the milling and asphalting of Pine Street and Edmondson Street to Apex Paving for $257,686.63.  This bid included two alternates: the milling and asphalting of Campanella from North Ingram halfway to Gehrig and the milling and asphalting of the other half of Campanella from North Ingram to Gehrig. Officials say l the work on Pine Street will try to be done between foundation work on the new building being built at the high school and the start of school. They say they just have to time it right and they just don’t want to inconvenience the school and they don’t want the new asphalt to be torn up. Officials say they will d keep in close contact with local residents and if wasn’t going to work out they would bring it back to the council.
