The Cape Girardeau City Council Narrows City Manager Candidates to Five

With GovHR USA consultant Mark Peterson in attendance, the Cape Girardeau City Council, meeting in closed session, chose five finalists Monday in their search for a new city manager to succeed Scott Meyer who is retiring. Peterson, who is a former longtime city manager of Normal, Illinois, has a specialty in advising cities and counties in recruiting candidates for executive positions. Because the hiring decision is a personnel matter, the final five candidates to fill the position were not specifically identified by city officials, but they aren’t from Missouri. City officials are setting aside April 26th and 27th for second interviews and fifty-six individuals made application by the city’s deadline of February 28, 2021. Meyer is going to retire after a record-setting 12 years in the city manager’s position.  Officials say the seven-member council may have a decision to announce by late April on the new Cape Girardeau City Manager.
