The Jackson Police Department was recently awarded its fifth consecutive accreditation award from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA). Officials say their vision is to maintain the highest standards of excellence in all facets of policing and the department seeks to be considered by their community and their profession as one of the premier law enforcement agencies in the nation. CALEA accreditation is a voluntary process which recognizes compliance with a series of professional law enforcement standards. The Jackson Police Department first received accreditation thirteen years ago. In the country, only five percent of law-enforcement agencies are accredited through CALEA, here in Missouri Jackson is one of forty-three law enforcement agencies accredited at the law-enforcement level.
