Officials with FEMA Turn down Grand Tower’s Request for Flood Assistance

Officials with FEMA recently denied the city of Grand Tower a multi-million-dollar grant to repair street damage that occurred two years ago. Now, city, officials are looking for other funding opportunities. On Front Street just below the riverbank, in an area which had extensive water damage during the flood, sits two very big sinkholes that opened shortly after the flooding subsided. Officials say the city had been working closely with FEMA to get the budget down to make street repairs. They say they were told by FEMA that the money was denied because of preexisting conditions and it is currently a waiting game between the city and FEMA to get the repairs done. So, officials are welcoming donations or contractor volunteer assistance they can get. The city is currently appealing FEMA’s decision to deny their application for grant assistance.
