Illinois State Police has located human skeletal remains during a search for a missing Carterville man. Police say they located those remains in a field near the 2500 block of E. 6th Street Road in Pana. ISP says the remains were discovered in an area to the north and east of the last known location of Daniel Crosby. Investigators noted the remains were found beyond areas that had previously been searched. The remains have not been identified and will require additional forensic review, police say. Preliminary evaluation of the skeletal remains revealed no obvious signs of trauma, police say. Crosby was last seen in Pana on Feb. 27, 2020. Family and friends have not spoken to, or seen, him since. Crosby was reported missing to the Carterville Police Department on March 18, 2020. In July 2020, WSIL reported Crosby was last seen near the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Pana on Feb. 27, 2020. A year after Crosby went missing, ISP announced Friday it would expand search efforts on Saturday. The remains were located Saturday during a search by DCI Zone 4. The group consists of the Chris-Mont (Christian and Montgomery County) Emergency Management Agency, Pana Police Department, Pana Fire Department, Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Christian County Coroner’s Office, the ISP Crime Scene Services, and other agencies. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact ISP Zone 4 at (217) 782-4750.
