Proposed Bond Would Improve Rural Scott County Fire Protection

On April 6, 2021 Scott County voters within the rural fire protection district will vote on a $2.7 million general obligation bond for the construction and equipment of a new fire station on the southern end. There are currently three fire stations (Blodgett, Morley, Vanduser) in the Scott County Rural Fire Protection District, which serve 8,970 citizens and they cover 150 square miles. This bond will also improve current fire stations by upgrading structural integrity and improve energy efficiency. The bond will  also assist in acquiring  new apparatus and auxiliary equipment to meet current safety regulations.  This bond is expected   to require a 37 cent per $100 of assessed valuation levy increase. This is projected to cost $70.30 for a home with an appraised value of $100,000 ($100,000 x 19% / 100 x $0.37 = $70.30), or about $5.86 a month.
