Along with Charter Communications, Big River Broadband in Cape Girardeau announced great steps in the process of expanding fiber-optic and broadband connections in Southeast Missouri. Officials announced last week that construction has begun on the company’s fiber optic internet and telephone service through their new division, Circle Fiber. This new network will connect to Circle Fiber’s platform in downtown Cape Girardeau and it will provide a gigabit network for both residents and businesses in the current service region of Big River Broadband. The initial construction of Circle Fiber’s network will cover the city of Jackson and parts of Cape Girardeau and it will be expanded to outside of the city limits to provide service to businesses and people in Oak Ridge and areas to the north of Cape Girardeau. Eventually, the project of several years will provide gigabit-capable services to around 125,000 individuals in Big River’s service region.
