A ribbon cutting was recently held at SoutheastHEALTH’s new mental health hospital in Cape Girardeau and the facility will open in phases in the coming spring season. The new facility is located at 639 South Silver Springs Road and is a partnership between Southeast-HEALTH and Universal Health Services (UHS). Universal Health Services is one of the biggest behavioral health providers in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Officials say patients will benefit from the expertise of Universal Health’s clinical team and Southeast’s complete care continuum for residents in the communities they are currently serving. Officials say they decided on UHS as a partner because of their expertise in mental health care and they have seen the need for this type of facility, with many patients in crisis who make visits to their emergency departments because they lack access to behavior health providers. The $33 million project will include 102 beds – 60 for adults, 20 for children and 22 for seniors. Services for outpatients will be provided once the new facility is entirely operational. Officials say the facility is going to open in separate phases and they want to ensure that they are doing everything correctly and in a safe manner, so they will opening just a few beds at a time until they open as an entire unit. Officials also say they are currently hiring more staff members and over 180 employees will work at the facility – including clinician staff, therapists, physiologists, psychiatrists, and administrative staff among others.
