Many warming centers around the region have opened their doors to those who are in need of a place to stay because exposure to the cold temperatures can be deadly. Officials with the Heart to Help warming shelter in New Madrid said displaced people are always welcome and when individuals enter the facility they provide them a nice place to sleep and at 8:30 meal is served. They can also watch .TV.. As of right now, with eight spaces available the facility is not turning away anyone who needs a warm place to sleep, officials say. They also say that currently they are utilizing a local church for immediate shelter, but they do have a warming center that’s coming, that’s going to be available, soon and It has over fifty cots and hot meals and additional space to abide by social distancing guidelines. The organization also has plenty of resources to assist those who are currently displaced. The Heart to Help warming center is open from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following day during inclement weather.
