Last Month Was Warmer than Normal in the Region

Evan though there was snow fall during the first month of the year it was still warmer than normal. The National Weather Service in Paducah, released its January 2021 Climate Review and said the region in January lacked extreme warm or cold temperatures through the month, which finished above normal by around 3 or 4 degrees. They provide summaries for the regions of Paducah, Evansville and Cape Girardeau. In the Cape Girardeau region, the average temperature last month was 37 degrees with the average high begin 44.5 and average low 29.5 degrees. The warmest temperature was 55 degrees on January 14, 2021 and the coolest and the coldest high was 31 degrees on January 11, 2021. The warmest low as 40 degrees on Jan. 25 and the coldest low was 18 degrees on Jan. 12. Total precipitation for the month was 2.95 inches. Data shows that Scott County, Missouri, totals ranged from 2.69 inches in the northern portion to 4.88 inches in the southern portion. New Madrid County, Missouri, recorded 4.71 inches in the southern portion while Mississippi County, Missouri, recorded about 3.5 inches.
