An autopsy on Tuesday, January 19 showed a Cape Girardeau County inmate died from cardiac arrest. The 60-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell at the Justice Center on Saturday, January 16. Police say they were notified of the inmate’s death by his cellmate. They say staff immediately responded and used an AED, as well as CPR until medical personnel arrived. The care and custody of those housed in their facility s a momentous responsibility not taken lightly, and passing om natural causes is not something that can be predicted or prevented. Our condolences go out to the inmate’s family. The autopsy was protocol for any death in the county’s Justice Center.
