Members of the Cape Girardeau County Commission Approve Funding Needed for Domestic Violence Shelter

Members of the Cape Girardeau County Commission gave their approval to a disbursement of over $16,000 to the Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau on Thursday. The organization will receive a total of $16,513.22 from funds collected by the courts which are put towards local domestic violence shelters. This funding will be distributed in two separate payments of the same amount of $8,256.81, one in January and another in July. Officials say the provided funding is very useful source of unrestricted funds for the Safe House for Woman. Officials say they are able to supplement their grant income with those fees.  They say this funding will pay for things that aren’t covered by their grants. The money that the organization received will assist in providing funding like transportation assistance to assist an individual in getting away from an abuser and replacing important documents like Social Security cards and birth certificates. Additionally, this funding also lets the Safe House for Women to provide childcare assistance for all mothers who are currently looking for a job.
