Cape Girardeau School District Will Spend $400,000 on Student Devices

Members of the Cape Girardeau School Board recently took a vote to buy 1,540 new Chromebooks at price of $400,370.66 for students at Central High School and the district’s alternative school, Central Academy. These are laptops or tablets that run on the Linux-based Chrome OS as its system of operation. They utilize the Google Chrome browser, and the majority of applications and data is kept in the cloud rather than on the device. Board members were advised to buy these devices now to make sure they arrive in time for the fall semester. Officials say the new Chromebooks are expected to last four years.
