Bollinger County Library Receives Grant to Expand Wi-Fi Access

The Bollinger County Library recently received a grant that is worth $25,000 to be utilized for expanding connectivity to the internet in the county’s rural areas. Officials with Missouri Care Incorporated and Anthem Company awarded the library the award to assist in filling in the funding that isn’t paid for by federal money from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Officials say the grant will let them install bigger routers and an antenna with continued data before the allowed CARES Act funds expires in June. As of right now, the library has ten public-access Wi-Fi hotspots in the outlying areas of the county, that are being used, but they provide limited service. In addition, of broadband access in Bollinger County will make distance learning necessities stronger. Officials also believe the greater access to mobile Wi-Fi hotspots will give residents flexible healthcare. They say this grant will provide their rural communities with resources to stay connected, promote health and wellness, and enable emotional and social support.
