The Cape Girardeau Police Department has spread out their hiring search criteria to possible who live in Southern Illinois. Spreading out their hiring search comes as the police department to recruit the best officers they can from around the area. Officials say they are removing e state requirement to live inside of Missouri and this was a requirement that has been lifted. They say that the advantage to lifting this requirement basically just reaching out to some of the bigger areas in the southern Illinois region, like Carbondale and Marion were there could be qualified candidates that might be a good fit to the Cape Girardeau Police Department. This works out good for students who are currently attending the police academy through Southeast Missouri State University. Officials say the city of Cape Girardeau has an educational hub at the Cape Girardeau Police Department., so many times they have candidate that live outside Missouri who attend the academy. The announcement to let officers from Illinois to work at the Cape Girardeau Police Department was made at the most recent Cape Girardeau City Council meeting on Monday night.
