Starting on Friday afternoon Ameren Missouri will be putting in wooden and composite utility poles on South Sprig Street in-between Buzzi Concrete and the water treatment plant. The utility poles are being put in as part of their Smart Energy Plan. Officials say that this plan will make energy reliability better for a total of 3400 of their customers within city limits and the new line will also increase the capacity of the energy system to meet Cape Girardeau’s growing needs. In addition, these new poles are also stronger and they can withstand severe weather. The total cost of the project is $1.3 million and it is main source to all of downtown Cape Girardeau. The project is scheduled to be completed next month.
