The bipartisan Friendly Airports for Mothers (FAM) Improvement Act went into effect on October 30, 2020 and officials at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport say their airport will comply and they are in the beginning phase of planning for the new terminal. Last month, members of the Cape Girardeau City Council were presented with the most up to date strategic plan on the future of the local airport. Officials say they are hoping to have a new terminal at the end of 2023 or the start of 2024. This new legislation was approved by the U.S. Senate back in July and the House of Representatives on October 1, 2020. This legislation requires all small hub airports around the country to have a lactation area for all mothers who are currently nursing their children as well as a baby changing table to be located inside of one men’s and women’s bathroom facility inside every terminal facility at the airport.
