Sikeston City Officials Enter Agreement with Conservation Officials to Manage Lake at Complex

Sikeston City officials entered into an agreement with the Missouri Department of Conservation in order to manage the lake located at the city’s recreational complex. Members of the Sikeston City Council gave their approval to the agreement during a city council meeting on Monday. Under this agreement, which is good for 25 years,  officials with the Missouri Department of Conservation would supply surveys, enforcement of rules and regulations  as well as regularly stock the lake as needed and also stock the lake in preparation for events that are special such as the Corporate Games. Officials say they want to improve the lake’s quality and the fish habitat. In addition, city officials will be able to get eligible funds through the Department of Conservation; like match grants for any type of improvements that may help the lake be more accessible.  Additionally, the Department of Conservation could set up and manage a winter trout fishing program.  Officials say the Department of Conservation would pay half of the cost to stock the lake with trout with city officials paying the other half.
