As the academic year for several schools within Cape Girardeau County gets underway this week, officials with the Cape Girardeau County Commission approved proposals from several schools, recouping them for several expenses due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The commissioners gave their approval to many amended requests that totaled $600,000 and the proposals will be paid for by the funding from the county’s Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act fund. Throughout the summer season the County Commission has utilized much of their $9.2 million CARES Act allocation from the state in order to recoup schools, municipal governments and several organizations for the cost of COVID 19 supplies and other costs caused by the pandemic. The commissioners took a vote on Monday to improve prior reimbursement approvals with updated amounts. Some of these updated amounts include $38,510.60 to St. Mary Cathedral School in Cape Girardeau and $21,431.32; to Saxony Lutheran High School.
