Centerstone Receives Two Million Dollar Grant for Their Zero Suicide initiative
National Suicide Prevention month is next month and Centerstone in Marion Illinois was recently awarded a $2 million grant in order to advance and enforce their Zero Suicide prevention initiative throughout their currant health system. Officials with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recently awarded the non-profit health system $400,000 each year for the next five years. The work to enforce the grant is scheduled to start by August 31, 2020. The funding will be used through the Zero Suicide initiative in order to elevate awareness of suicide, launch referral processes and improve care and outcomes for adults who are over the age of 25. Officials say the funding comes at critical time and suicide rates are reportedly going up around the country in all age groups. Two years ago, suicide took the lives of over 48,000 Americans and was ranked the 10th leading cause of death.
