Man Faces Felony Charges after Incident on Interstate 55

A man is facing felony charges after an incident on Interstate 55 on Thursday, August 6. 34 year-old Alonzo Jones is accused of choking a baby while standing in the middle of the interstate around the 98 mile marker and pointing a gun at motorists. He was charged with first-degree domestic assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. His bond was set at $10,000. Police say an armed man, later identified as Jones, was driving recklessly on I-55 and had a child with him. Court documents say that he used his 11-month-old child as a hostage, and in the process, choked the child while telling officers he was going to kill him.
