State officials in Missouri have confirmed that they are closing the ECHO Day Treatment Center in Cape Girardeau and the Bend Youth Center in New Madrid, Missouri. These closing are two of a total of eight state-run facilities serving at-risk youth being closed down across the state. Officials say that Governor Parson’s fiscal 2021 budget doesn’t have enough money to provide funding for the facilities. Officials say they have seen fewer kids come into their facility and this is great news because this means their diversionary efforts are working and a higher number of kids are being served within their residences or in the community. Officials say that the changes are happening due of a limited budget and not the working performance of their staff members. The ECHO center provided services for area youth in grades six through twelve and enrolment had decreased from 26 eight years ago to nine last year.
