Jackson playgrounds have been closed to the public for more than two months due to the COVID 19 pandemic, but now they are open to the public again. There are ten playgrounds within the Jackson City Park and there is one playground each in the soccer park and Bookside Park. Officials say local kids have wanted to get outside and play and they say they’ve been talking to them every day about it. The reopening of all the playgrounds and the two basketball courts in Jackson was part of the second phase of Missouri’s Show Me Strong Recovery Plan that eased many restrictions related to the COVID 19 pandemic. The playgrounds have been closed since Aril 3, 2020 and officials say the reopening will follow guidelines that are currently in place by the Cape Girardeau County Health Department and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Meanwhile, playgrounds in Cape Girardeau County Park North and Cape Girardeau County Park South were opened back up on Memorial Day. Both playgrounds were closed back on April 7, 2020. The Jackson Civic Center has also reopened with no limits related to occupancy, but masks being worn and practicing social distancing will still be encouraged for the well being of everyone.
