Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) has identified a limited data access issue inside the new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) system. An investigation into the issue revealed one PUA applicant was able to accidentally gain access to personal identifying information of a small number of applicants whose information was in the system. That applicant informed the department of the issue. Within an hour the necessary adjustments were made to the current system to keep further unnecessary access from taking place IDES and Deloitte officials have been working alongside each other to create and update the web-based PUA portal. The portal went live last Monday. IDES officials will reveal results of the investigation when it is finished and they will let applicants know if they were affected. Over 50,000 claims have been processed through the PUA system.
