Beginning on Friday Saint Francis Healthcare System will be proving rapid molecular testing for the coronavirus. This type of testing is used to detect if someone currently has a viral infection such as the coronavirus. Cepheid, the molecular diagnostic vendor that is currently being used by healthcare workers at St. Francis gained approval from officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to be used for rapid diagnostic coronavirus testing. The GeneXpert analyzer that is being used at St. Francis is currently configured to conduct a dozen tests at a single time and results can be viewed in just a matter of minutes. Currently, Saint Francis has performed 993 tests, 75 of which have comeback positive.
