Members of the Missouri National Guard to Work with Local Schools to Provide Meals for Students
Members of the Missouri National Guard are partnering with local volunteers on the front lines to provide meals to families within Cape Girardeau who are currently being served by the school district. This partnership was made possible by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Officials say ever since March 18th over 700,000 meals have been made by cafeteria workers and packaged up and divided up in drive through lines at the school buildings. Officials also say that last week a total of 17,000 meals were distributed and volunteers are getting tired. Department officials reached out to school officials via email and officials said they would take all the help they could get. School officials say that several families in the area dependend upon the schools to give students notorious meals in these uncertain times. Members of the Missouri National Guard say their members are proud to help the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education with distributing meals to make sure students get the proper meals they need.
