Women Arrested for Leading Police on a Chase in Stolen Vehicle

A Carbondale woman faces multiple charges after driving the wrong way and leading police on a chase on Monday. At around 2:30.p.m.police responded to a call of a reckless driver going the wrong-way on a one-way street. Witnesses told police the driver hit a street sign and continued traveling on the 2400 block of West Main Street. Police tried to stop the driver, but she refused to pull over. Eventually, the driver hit an embankment on the 300 block of North Wall St., near Oak Street This caused the vehicle to become stuck. The driver, identified as 36-year-old Lisa N. Chumley, was arrested. Police say she was the only occupant in the car. During the investigation of the incident, police learned the vehicle was reported stolen in Murphysboro. Chumley was booked into the Jackson County Jail. Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 618-457-3200.
