Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation are making plans for overnight closures to take place on April 20th and 21st at the diverging diamond interchange project at Center Junction between Cape Girardeau and Jackson. Officials say Route 61/Kingshighway will be closed at Interstate 55 while crews demolish the current southbound Interstate 55 bridge during the overnight hours, but this depends on weather conditions. Work will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both days. The southbound acceleration ramp and northbound off ramp will stay open during these hours. Crews will begin work to replace the northbound bridge by the beginning of next year. The whole project is scheduled to last about a year and nine months to finish.
