College Students in Illinois to Receive Coronavirus Emergency Aid

Officials with the .U.S. Department of Education have confirmed that all institutions of higher learning within the state of Illinois will receive a total of $218 million for emergency financial aid to students. The funding is being provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. All students within the state who encountered fees that were related to the semester being suspended by the COVID-19 crisis will get cash grants. The funding that students receive can be put towards materials related to their courses, food, housing, health care and childcare. All colleges and universities within the state will decide which students will be able to receive the cash grants. Officials say the state is expected to get $437 million in total from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.
