Unemployment Claims Rise across Missouri

As of Tuesday, Missouri State Health officials reported a total of 3,037 positive cases of COVID-19 and 53 deaths in the state. Yesterday, state government officials announced a new emergency law allowing first responders who contract  coronavirus to receive workers compensation and addressed filing for unemployment. Officials say more than 100,000 people filed for unemployment in the past week and the Missouri Department of Labor has had more unemployment claims filed in the past couple of weeks than all of last year. The $600 federal supplement for residents who are currently unemployed went into effect on March 29, 2020 for residents filing their unemployment payment request for that week. The checks should go out on April 12.
