Cape Girardeau Public Library to Remain Closed Due to Virus

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will remain closed until further notice due to the coronavirus outbreak. The library was closed to the public on St. Patrick’s Day and staff members hoped to reopen by April 6th, but the growing number of coronvirus cases has caused the library to remain closed. The library will remain closed because staff is trying to do their part in practicing social distancing to keep the virus from spreading. Library officials say this was a hard decision for them to make, but the health and safety of the public and staff members is their top concern. Officials say any books and other materials that local residents currently have at home will not be due back until the library opens back up. Residents are also encouraged to use the library’s digital branch. Residents can gain access to the library’s digital branch at www.capelibrary.org by clicking on the link for the digital branch. The digital branch gives residents access to audiobooks, magazines, videos and ebooks through the Overdrive/Libby and RB Digital apps.
