State of Illinois Expands Emergency Childcare in the State for all Essential Employees

State officials in Illinois are expanding the eligibility for residents who are currently eligible for the Illinois’s Child Care Assistance Program. Currently, all essential workers in health care, human services, essential government services, and essential infrastructure now qualify for the program. Residents who are eligible under the expansion program,  includes residents working as doctors, nurses, hospital staff, grocery store clerks and food producers. This means the state will provide coverage for the majority of the expenses related to healthcare by emergency child care centers and homes. On Sunday, April 5, the Illinois Department of Public Health confirmed almost 900 new cases statewide of COVID-19 and 31 deaths. Currently, there are 11,256 positive cases and 274 deaths in the state.
