Rerouting of Traffic to Start Tomorrow at Center Junction

Construction Crews are set to make traffic changes to Center Junction at Exit 99 between Cape Girardeau and Jackson depending on the weather. The traffic changes are set to start at 10.a.m. tomorrow. Beginning tomorrow the northbound and southbound traffic on Interstate 55 will be reduced to a single lane so construction crews can work on the two bridges that currently span Center Junction.  Officials say they are currently anticipating that they will follow with the head to head traffic on Highway 61, by this Thursday, but this depends on weather. Officials say they expect traffic on Interstate 55 to be reasonably straightforward with more involved changes on Highway 61/ North Kingshighway.  Construction crews recently installed a temporary traffic signal at the entrance of the Cape Girardeau County Park along with an added turn around that is located at the east exit, officials say. Construction crews will be putting signs in place along with barricades, striping and channelizers to direct motorists to where they are going. Officials say motorists will not be allowed to make left hand turns for a total of three miles along Highway 61 with right turns in and out only. In addition, construction crews also installed a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Route K and Highway 25 in Gordonville. The signal will be in place until the whole project is complete to accommodate the increase in traffic that officials expect.
