Southeast Missouri Food Bank Awarded Grant to Hire Temporary Employees

The Southeast Missouri Food Bank has received a grant that is worth almost $200,000. This grant gives the food bank the opportunity to provide workers who have been laid off because of the coronavirus temporary employment. The food bank can use these workers to assist with packing food for senior citizens within the food banks coverage area and several families that are in need. The total value of the grant is $198,720. The grant will allow the food bank to hire up to a dozen employees to work for them full time for ten straight weeks. Both the Cape Girardeau and Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce will help with the promotion of this employment opportunity for businesses that are members that have employees who have lost their jobs temporarily due to the pandemic. The local recruitment firm, Manpower will handle the screening process of employees who are considered to be qualified and hire the temporary employees. Manpower currently has an office in both Cape Girardeau and Sikeston.
