Polar Plunge in Benton Raises a Total of $21,000 for Special Olympics in Illinois

Hundreds of area residents went out to Rend Lake in Benton to take part in the annual Polar Plunge.  The event happened on Saturday afternoon and more than 300 people took part in the event. In order to take the plunge participants were required to raise a minimum of $1,000, but officials say many are able to collect and donate even more. Over the past two decades more than $22 million has been raised for Special Olympics. This year’s event raised $21,000 for Special Olympics athletes across the state.
