Cape Girardeau County Historical Society to Add New Research Center

Members of the Cape Girardeau County Historical Society recently signed a lease for the addition of a research center at 110 South High Street in Jackson. This new research center will be located a short distance away from the historical society‘s History Center at 102 South High Street. The building will have the library’s research stations along with the paper documents from the History Center’s collection inside of it. Officials say they do not currently have a great place for citizens to utilize the manuscripts books and other library materials they have  and they feel the responsibility to make what they have available to researchers. Officials say the idea of the addition of a research center came about because the History Center is no longer a quiet place to do research. Officials say as they continue developing integrity throughout the region and citizens know the society is there people continue to bring them items that are valuable and paper documents. Officials also say that the new research center will have made available for researchers to use. In addition the research center will also be able to be used to conduct small meetings for the society’s board or other local historical organizations. As of now business hours have not been determined, but officials expect there will be one or two days a week that the new center will be open to the public. The center will also be open by appointment during the week.
