Cape Girardeau Public Library Receives $10,000 Grant for Summer Reading Program

The Cape Girardeau Public Library was recently awarded a Summer Library Program Grant worth $10,000. The grant will go towards providing a summer reading program for individuals of all ages. The program will work in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Clubs and daycares to branch out to those who are currently in at-risk and under-served populations.Officials say Summer Library Program Grants assist libraries with providing educational programs that assist libraries in expanding opportunities for youth, teenagers and adults to improve their reading skills. In addition they assist libraries to entice educational experiences throughout the summer season. The Missouri State Library gave their approval for eighty grant applications in the 2020 fiscal year that has a total value of $521,266 in federal rewards that the secretary’s office has given out to libraries across the state. Funding for the grants is through the Library Services and Technology Act on behalf of the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
