Two Men have Been Arrested for Carbondale Homicide

Two suspects were arrested in connection to a homicide investigation in Carbondale. The two suspects were identified as 23 year-old Alecze Cummings and 26 year-old Cameron Johnson. Police say a dispute amongst acquaintances resulted in a fight which led to the gunfire on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 and they responded to an initial report of shots fired where a person was said to be injured. The incident happened on the 2200 block of North Illinois Avenue at 12:21 a.m.. When police arrived, they found a 25-year-old Cordell Johnson of Cairo, Ill. unresponsive on the pavement in front of a home. He was suffering from several gunshot wounds. Police said officers along with personnel from the Jackson County Ambulance and Carbondale Fire Department attempted to save the man but they were unable to resuscitate him. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene. Police said the investigation is ongoing and their goal is to identify and charge those responsible for Johnson’s death.
