Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) are currently deciding where REAL ID’s can be given out. At this point KYTC is takeing on the responsibility. This means REAL ID complaint license and IDs are not going to be available within Circuit Court Clerk offices. Officials said KYTC is working on a plan to open regional offices across the state to give out REAL ID’s. Circuit Court Clerk’s offices will continue giving out the current Kentucky license along with Identification cards that have always been available to receive in these locations. The license and Identification cards that are given out in the offices will be accessible until they expire. However, they can only be accessible for identification to board a domestic flight, enter a military base or a federal facility until October 1, 2020. Officials recommend that if anyone needs a form of identification for the following reasons they should apply for or a passport. More information can be found at www.drive.ky.gov.
